I just LOVE going to th dentist..

I had a cavity in a bottom right molar, theone the dental people call " # 18" it was a bit painful, so rather than wait and let an abcess develop into an abcess, I made an appointment at the same clinic wher the rotten tooth was pulled. I had assumed that I would get a regular old filling, but of course, nothing is ever that rasy for me. and he ended up doing a root cnal and crown. the root canal was not as painful as I'd been led to believe, and the crown is a temp, that will be replaced when the permanent one comes back from the place they're made. ( he took an impression to make a mold.the crown set immediately, and I can eat anything I want, although I'm sticking with soup and yogurt for now. all in all, not quite the fun of the EEG, but still quite the educational jaunt.

while eating breakfast one morning back in late July, I had a seizure, mom called 911 and the paramedics took me to the emergency room at kennestone hospital. the ER doc recommended I see a neurologist, and since I didn't have one, Holley got me an appointment with hers. when I went to Dr Hormez, he scheduled me for an EEG, which I had yesterday morning at 11:45. It was rather unusual. I don't know the results, the technician said they would be sent to Dr Hormez.

yet ANOTHER doctor

After the seizure last eek, the ER doctor at kennestone recommended that I see a neurologist. since I didn't have one ( dr Barnette is a neuro surgeon), Holley got me an appointment with her neurologist, and I saw him yesterday. doc is really nice and I felt comfortable with him right away. his nurse took my vitals and drew some blood, then we talked about my "episode". He told us that there is new research indicating that right brain strokes like mine can often lead to seizure activity. he wrote me a prescription for "kepra", an anti-seizure med, and said he was going to consult with my psychiatrist about lowering the dosages of anti-depressants I take. he also set me up to take an EEG test on Thursday the 13th.

Oh, I forgot in the last post. the dentist closed up the hole where the tooth was with some self-disolving sutures. they're quite annoying, but should disolve within 12-14 days. I took my first hard food yesterday, some fried spring rolls and shrimp lo-mein at te neighborhood Chinese restaurant. I had to go light on the Chinese mustard because the dentist doesn't want me to eat anything ultra spicy, so as not to annoy the raw area of the extraction site. I had enough lo mein left over that I had some for lunch today.

"I had that "never say die" spirit: crawling to the buffet, saying "must get to lo-mein""

oops, forgot this little gem in last post: It had been so long since I had my wisdom teeth out that I didn't remember that the dentist stitched up the hole where the tooth was. I read the "after-care" instructions this afternoon and found out that the stitches will disolve within a week. I have to rinse my mouth thrice daily with a special "anti-septic" that really burns.I can only eat soft foods for 2 weks, and have to avoid the stitches when brushing my teeth. strangest rule of all is no spitting. when i finish with the mouth rinse and using my brush, I just bend over the sink, open my lips and let everything run out.I sure will be glad when the stitches disolve and i can brush and spit like everyone else, hahahaha.

have a nice night, and a better tomorrow!

FUN FUN FUN till the dentist took my molar away.

those of you who know me well will have no doubt noticed that I have some seriously messed up "austin powers" teeth, the result of years of less than fastidious oral hygene. As a result of my laxity. I developed a large cavity in a bottom left molar, that in turn developed into an abcess and infection that sent me to the emergency room.the ER physician put me on a course of anti-biotics and recommended that I see a dentist.I hadn't had a regular dentist since the mid '90s, so I made an appointment at a nearby "great expressions" dental clinic because they were in my insurance policies network. The dentist there examined my mouth and determined that the tooht needed to be extracted ASAP.I had the tooth puled at 10:00 this morning. the only other time I've had teeth extracted was both of my bottom "wisdom" teeth removed at the dental clinic @ camp lejeune when I was stationed there in the 1980s both of those teeth were "impacted" or sideways, and the dentist had a hel of a time getting them out. he had to use a drill to cut them into pieces and take the shards out 1 at a time. that was soo awefull that i was somewhat nervous when I sat down in the chair this morning. But I need not have worried, because, other than some brief shock of pain because I needed more novacaine, It was all easy-peasy,and over before i knew it. the hygenist took my tooth off the tray and showed it to me when we were done. it was all messed up. i asked her if she could run it through the autoclave they use to sterilize the instruments so i could keep it as a souvenier, but she said she wasn't allowed to do that. because of the bacteria on the tooth. i was like, hey, it's my bacteria anyway, what gives? apparently, it's the law
